At LifeTech Academy, we believe education is about more than academics—it’s about character, compassion, and community. Our Executive Director, Tom, embodies these values not only in his leadership, but in the way he and his family observe Memorial Day each year.

Tom recently shared a powerful story that reflects the heart behind this national day of remembrance:

“Every Memorial Day, my wife, my children, and I visit the area cemeteries where my family members who have walked on are interred. For many years, we have been joined by my sister and her family, as well, and we work together to beautify their gravesites.”

What began as a family tradition of honoring their own loved ones has grown into something even more meaningful—an act of service that bridges generations and inspires others.

“A few years ago, we had a particularly large group of helpers, and my son and I wandered through the rows reading the names of the Veterans in the cemetery. We came upon one particular grave marker of a World War I veteran that was overgrown. I sent my son back for some tools, and we weeded and cleaned the stone.”

That moment sparked a new Memorial Day ritual for Tom’s family. It’s simple, quiet, and deeply impactful.

“Every year since, we walk the rows looking for a veteran’s grave marker that needs a little extra care. Once we have finished, we document the site with photographs and move on. It has become our Memorial Day tradition that we hope to continue for years to come, and others will begin to do, as well.”

At LifeTech, we are proud to share this story—not only because it’s a moving example of honoring those who served, but because it shows how one family’s intentional act of remembrance can become a tradition that inspires others to serve, reflect, and give back.

This Memorial Day, may we all find a way to remember and honor the sacrifices of those who came before us. Whether through a moment of silence, a shared story, or a simple act of care—every gesture matters.
