What can you do to make learning engaging and fun?

We believe that learning should be fun. When you enrolled at LifeTech Academy you were assigned an academic support team. Your teachers and mentors have the tools and creativity to help design and support a personalized plan that will help your child develop and maintain a love of learning. This works in a variety of ways. You receive feedback on assignments, you have the chance to ask questions whenever you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck, and in some cases, your team may even invent new ways to challenge your child.

We recently learned that one of our mentors, Naomi Van Loh, encouraged two of her students, Levi and Harrison, to form a private Vocabulary Club.

“Each learner collected five new words every week from their daily life, or from pleasure reading, or from school work,” Van Loh said. “Each boy was learning ten new words a week.”

“Another reward came at our fall NWEA testing. After doing the Vocabulary Club for a year, both boys scored 99 percentile in reading achievement. The remarkable thing is that both boys also scored in the 90th percentile on the NWEA for reading growth. It’s RARE for a learner who is performing above grade level, to also show high levels of growth. The vocabulary club helped fuel this exceptional outcome.”

Levi’s mother Marla noticed that participating in the Vocabulary Club had additional benefits for her son.

“Not only did it broaden Levi’s vocabulary it also helped to bring about a sense of awareness to talk out loud when words were noticed that he needed to know more about,” Marla said.

Harrison’s mother Lauren shared what she values the most.

“Naomi’s encouragement along with Harrison and Levi’s perseverance has likely kindled a lifelong friendship between our two families,” Lauren said.

Would you like to start a student club? If so, talk to your academic team about your ideas.
